The 'Weis' whose name is put to so many of them is probably Sylvius Leopold Weiss, but a few may be by his brother Sigismund, who was also a lutist, and by whom there is a composition on f. 33b. Probably other pieces besides those ascribed to them below are the work of one or other of the brothers.
